Take one city-kid dad and one city-kid mom, add three busy preschoolers, pause for a Saturday afternoon visit at an alpaca ranch. Make new friends, read an investment brochure. Let stew for some weeks, and then take the plunge. Voila! Alpacas owners since 1994.
That's how it started for Black Acre Alpacas, but we've come a long way!
Now we have busy preschoolers AND busy crias, laundry to sort AND fiber to spin, doctors, dentists AND vets to see, births to watch (breedings to explain), and above all the cacophony, a hummmmmm!
The kids know that our alpacas' great grandparents came from S. America, and that these animals have fine fiber that can be made into soft, warm clothing.
The parents know that alpacas are safe around the kids, and the kids are safe around the alpacas, the animals generally being of gentle disposition and mostly curious, just like the kids!
